Most of us enjoy a drink every now and again. However it is easy to start drinking more than is good for us. The alcohol team at Manchester Public Health Development Service called on Sunny Thinking to design a publication aimed at promoting safer drinking habits in this case, in later life...combining our experience working on both alcohol led campaigns and talking to the older generations.
The publication we designed built initially on the idea of dispelling myths of early advertising campaigns that had us believe drinking was good for our health. We chose an illustrative route that made a parody of those campaigns and that idea and married this up with fonts and colour schemes that would be reminiscent of those from that era. Information such as units, safer drinking tips and health risks are clearly signposted in our broadsheet format.
http://www.mhsc.nhs.ukAndy Mann made his first appearance in 2011 in Sunny Thinking's award-winning 'Guide to STIs' for the NHS and now he's back to tackle more men's health issues. First up he's kick starting the New Year by helping people to stop smoking then there are more public health issues to confront.
The positive impact of Andy Mann was so immense last year with the first publication we designed, that the logical step was to develop his character further in order to confront a wide variety of men's health issues. The same straight talking tone and illustration style will continue to evolve and tell his story to help others.
http://www.mhsc.nhs.ukManchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust provides mental health, social care, public health and wellbeing services for the people of Manchester. One challenge their public health team face is the growing number of cases of STIs and therefore the constant battle to promote safer sex and in this case...encourage men to use a condom.
Through use of humour, straight talking copy and comical illustrations, Sunny Thinking has designed an award-winning guide to sexually transmitted infections. Aimed at encouraging men to wear a condom, our character Andy Mann tells his story to help others avoid the 'clap', 'getting a dose' or 'the itch'...the moral of it all...'Wear a condom like A. Mann!'
http://www.mhsc.nhs.ukThe sexual health team at Manchester Mental and Social Care Trust, working alongside the specialist midwifery service, provide a range of materials for the Manchester Maternity Hospitals about 'Sexual Health and HIV in Pregnancy'. Their previous materials were outdated and they required updated information for both maternity staff and the public to cover topics including HIV testing, management of women found to be HIV positive in pregnancy, follow up care and getting support and resources.
Sunny Thinking was given the challenging commission to design a family of materials for this highly sensitive subject matter. Our solution was to incorporate an illustration of a mother and baby, entwined within the highly recognisable and iconic red ribbon on the covers of all the materials and develop a suite of materials that had a very sensitive, warm and approachable tone. We produced the main 'Sexual Health and HIV in Pregnancy' booklet for hospital staff and a series of information leaflets for the public including a version translated in to French.
